Press Release
Nicelle Beauchene is pleased to share a selection of works on paper by Richard Bosman. These nine, acrylic on paper paintings demonstrate a turning point in Bosman’s practice from abstraction to the expressive figuration that has defined his painting since the early 1980s. Considering noir narratives found in mythology, crime novels, and the city as subject, Bosman worked at this scale to flesh out scenes for his larger canvases; they are, as the artist describes, how a short story might then relate to a novel. His loose and expressive brushstrokes lend a dramatic immediacy to his subject matter, conveying just the tip of the iceberg of larger stories.
